Tourism With Purpose
We believe tourism should create opportunities for the people and communities that make Pakistan special. Toura Foundation supports education, scholarships, women, youth, local livelihoods and environmental responsibility, with a strong focus on Gilgit-Baltistan.
Toura Foundation is a community-focused foundation established around the idea that tourism can create positive and practical opportunities for people and places across Pakistan.
Our work is closely connected to the responsible tourism approach of Adventure Touristik, but Toura Foundation has its own social purpose: supporting education, community development, women's economic participation, youth activities, local livelihoods and environmental responsibility.
We begin with communities where our connection is strongest, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan and Hunza, while working toward a long-term vision of expanding meaningful initiatives across Pakistan.
Our mission is to use the positive potential of tourism to support education, strengthen local livelihoods, empower women and young people, promote equal opportunity, protect natural environments and help communities participate more meaningfully in Pakistan's tourism economy.
We envision a Pakistan where children can access education, women can build sustainable economic opportunities, young people can participate in sports and community activities, local producers can reach wider markets, local tourism professionals can benefit from visitors, and Pakistan's mountains, culture and natural heritage are respected and protected.
Our programs connect tourism with education, community opportunity, women's empowerment, youth development, local markets and environmental responsibility.
We support students in Pakistan who face financial barriers to education. Our current scholarship work supports 50 beneficiaries at Uswa Public School and College in Ganesh, Hunza.
We support women in Hunza by helping them understand product development, local branding, presentation and opportunities to connect their products with visitors and international markets.
We promote sports and community activities for young people and encourage participation by both males and females without discrimination.
We connect international travelers with local markets, producers and artisans so visitors can discover and purchase products directly from their sources.
We take practical environmental initiatives during trekking and mountain activities, including efforts to collect solid waste from mountain areas and encourage responsible travel.
We engage local guides, porters, drivers, professionals, suppliers and other community-based tourism workers wherever appropriate.
Education can open opportunities that remain inaccessible when families cannot afford school expenses.
Toura Foundation currently supports students whose families face financial difficulties, with our existing scholarship initiative benefiting 50 students at Uswa Public School and College in Ganesh, Hunza.
We want to increase this support and reach more students in Gilgit-Baltistan and other communities across Pakistan where educational opportunities can be limited.

Help Support More StudentsHunza has talented women creating locally made products, crafts, foods and other goods.
Toura Foundation aims to help connect these skills and products with tourism by introducing better approaches to branding, presentation and market access.
Our goal is to help local women build products and brands that can reach visitors and international customers while preserving local identity and knowledge.
Women should have equal opportunities to participate in the economic benefits created by tourism.
We teach and encourage women in Hunza to understand how local products can be developed into recognizable brands and presented to visitors and wider markets.
International travelers can become an important connection between local producers and customers outside the region.
Tourism becomes more meaningful when visitors can meet the people behind the products they purchase and when more tourism spending can remain within destination communities.
We take international travelers to local markets and producers in Gilgit-Baltistan where they can discover and purchase locally made products directly from their source.
We create connections between international visitors and local producers, giving travelers a more direct cultural experience while opening opportunities for community businesses.
By encouraging travelers to work with local people and purchase locally made products, we aim to help more tourism value remain within destination communities.
We believe communities are stronger when people have the opportunity to participate regardless of gender.
Toura Foundation promotes participation in education, sports, community activities and economic opportunities for both males and females.
Gender equality, dignity, inclusion, respect and equal opportunity are central principles of our work.
Pakistan's mountains are central to the country's tourism identity and provide extraordinary landscapes for trekking, hiking and adventure.
These environments are also fragile and require responsible tourism and community participation.
During trekking and mountain activities, we take initiatives to collect solid waste from mountain areas and trekking routes and encourage visitors to leave natural places cleaner than they found them.
The people who know a destination best should have opportunities to participate in its tourism economy.
Local guides contribute destination knowledge, cultural understanding and practical experience while helping tourism income reach local communities.
Mountain tourism and trekking create opportunities for local porters and contribute to the wider mountain tourism economy.
Wherever appropriate, we work with local drivers, accommodation providers, suppliers, artisans and tourism professionals.
Gilgit-Baltistan is at the heart of our early work because of our strong connection with the region and the opportunities we see for responsible tourism to contribute to community development.
From education and women's entrepreneurship to local employment, youth sports, environmental responsibility and local markets, we want to help communities participate more fully in the benefits of tourism.
Our long-term vision is to expand successful and appropriate initiatives from Hunza and Gilgit-Baltistan to communities across Pakistan.
A journey should not only take you somewhere. It can also create opportunity for the people and communities you meet along the way.
