Toura Foundation Impact & Community Projects in Pakistan

Tourism with purpose means using our connection with destinations, travelers and local communities to create practical social and environmental impact. Toura Foundation supports education, emergency relief, youth activities, environmental action and community development in Pakistan and beyond.

What does Toura Foundation do?

Toura Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Adventure Touristik Group. Its work focuses on practical community support through education, scholarships, emergency relief, environmental action, youth sports and local community development. The foundation's strongest connection is with Hunza and Gilgit-Baltistan, while its vision is to support meaningful initiatives wherever tourism and community responsibility can create positive impact.

Tourism with Purpose

Toura Foundation was created around a simple idea: tourism should create value for the people and places that make travel possible. Adventure Touristik works with travelers who visit mountains, valleys, communities and cultural destinations. Through Toura Foundation, this connection is extended beyond travel itself.

The name Toura is derived from the idea of tourism and represents the foundation's connection with travel, destinations and people. It is closely connected with the philosophy of Adventure Touristik, a tourism company focused on adventure travel, remote destinations and meaningful experiences.

Adventure Touristik also has a German base office in Bayreuth, Germany. This international connection helps link travelers from different parts of the world with communities and initiatives in Pakistan.

Our principle

Tourism should not only bring visitors to communities. It should also help communities benefit from tourism.

The aim is to help students remain in education when financial circumstances could otherwise limit their opportunities. As the foundation develops, we aim to expand education contributions to other communities across Pakistan, with particular attention to areas where access to opportunity is limited.

School Support

Financial assistance can help students continue their school education despite household financial limitations.

The foundation believes that education opportunities should not be restricted by gender, background or economic circumstances.

Our long-term goal is to support more students and educational initiatives across Pakistan.

EMERGENCY COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Chipurson Earthquake Relief, Hunza

In January 2026, a major earthquake affected communities in Chipurson Valley in Upper Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan. The earthquake caused damage to homes and infrastructure, while winter conditions made the situation especially difficult for affected families.

Toura Foundation responded with practical, in-kind assistance. On 14 January 2026, the foundation contributed approximately €2,000 worth of materials to help affected families. The assistance was provided through materials rather than direct cash payments and included blankets, warm clothing and wood for heating.

Why in-kind relief matters

In remote mountain communities, practical materials can be especially important during emergencies. Providing warm clothing, blankets and heating materials can address immediate needs while communities work toward longer-term recovery.

Impact context: Independent humanitarian reporting documented extensive damage and urgent winter needs in Chipurson following the January 2026 earthquake.

Plantation Drive in Hunza

Environmental responsibility is another important part of Toura Foundation's vision. Through a plantation initiative in Hunza, we have planted approximately 1,500 plants in collaboration with the Government Department of Agriculture Hunza.

Mountain destinations depend on healthy natural environments. Plantation and environmental initiatives can contribute to greener communities while strengthening awareness among residents and visitors about the importance of protecting the landscapes that support local life and tourism.

Approx. 1,500 Plants

Local Collaboration

Implemented in collaboration with the Government Department of Agriculture Hunza.

Environmental Awareness

Supporting a culture of environmental responsibility in a major mountain tourism region.

Supporting Youth Sports in Hunza

Young people are central to the future of mountain communities. Toura Foundation has supported youth organizations in Hunza that arrange sports and recreational activities for young people.

One example is the Hunza Sports Board, which Toura Foundation has been helping since 2014. Supporting sports activities provides young people with opportunities to participate, develop skills, build teamwork and remain connected with their communities.

Sport for Everyone

Toura Foundation supports the principle that sports opportunities should be open to both young men and women. We aim to encourage participation, inclusion, teamwork and healthy community activities without discrimination.

Women Empowerment and Local Economic Opportunities

Tourism can create opportunities for local producers, artisans, entrepreneurs and families. Toura Foundation aims to help women in Hunza develop products that can be presented to visitors and introduced to wider markets.

Our vision includes practical support in areas such as product development, local branding, presentation, access to tourists and international market opportunities. The objective is not simply to sell products, but to strengthen the ability of local women to participate in the tourism economy on their own terms.

Skills

Support practical skills for developing and presenting locally made products.

Local Brands

Encourage stronger local identity and branding for products from mountain communities.

Tourist Markets

Connect visitors directly with local producers and community markets.

Wider Markets

Work toward opportunities for suitable local products to reach international customers.

Keeping Tourism Benefits Local

One of the principles behind Toura Foundation is to strengthen the connection between travelers and local economies. Visitors can contribute more directly to communities when they purchase locally made products, use local services and experience destinations through local people.

Through Adventure Touristik's tourism network, we aim to encourage travelers to support local markets, local guides, local porters, local accommodation providers, local professionals and community-based businesses.

Local Guides

Create opportunities for qualified local guides to participate directly in tourism.

Local Porters

Support local employment through trekking and mountain tourism.

Local Products

Encourage travelers to purchase directly from community producers and local markets.

Local Professionals

Build tourism opportunities around people who live and work in destination communities.

Protecting Mountain Environments

The mountains of Gilgit-Baltistan are both home and destination. Protecting these environments is therefore an important part of responsible tourism.

Toura Foundation's environmental vision includes plantation activities, awareness and practical efforts to reduce the impact of tourism. We also support the principle that trekking routes and mountain landscapes should be treated as shared natural resources rather than disposable tourism infrastructure.

Our environmental priorities

  • Plant trees and support greener communities.
  • Encourage responsible behavior on trekking routes.
  • Reduce solid waste in mountain tourism areas.
  • Support clean-up activities where practical.
  • Encourage travelers to respect natural landscapes.
  • Promote responsible tourism as a long-term community value.
CURRENT INTERNATIONAL RELIEF FUNDRAISING

Supporting Relief Efforts in Nepal

Toura Foundation also believes that responsible tourism creates a connection between people beyond national borders. We are currently supporting fundraising for relief efforts in Nepal, where World Central Kitchen is responding to communities affected by severe flash flooding.

World Central Kitchen reports that its teams and restaurant partners are serving meals in affected areas of Nepal. Toura Foundation's goal is to encourage our community, travelers and supporters to contribute to this relief effort.

Support Nepal Relief

Help provide emergency food support to communities affected by the Nepal floods through World Central Kitchen.

How Tourism Can Support Communities

Every journey creates relationships between travelers and destinations. Toura Foundation seeks to make those relationships more meaningful by encouraging forms of tourism that create opportunities for people who live in the destination.

Stay Local

Choose locally operated accommodation and community services where available.

Buy Local

Purchase locally produced goods directly from community businesses and makers.

Hire Local

Support local guides, porters, drivers and tourism professionals.

Respect Nature

Reduce waste, respect trails and protect the natural environment.

Transparency and Responsible Giving

Toura Foundation aims to direct support toward practical projects where contributions can create a clear community benefit. Our approach includes direct material assistance, educational support, environmental activities and support for local organizations.

We believe supporters should understand where projects take place, what type of assistance is provided and what the intended community benefit is. For emergency campaigns, the nature of support may depend on local needs, access and the situation on the ground.

Our impact philosophy

We prefer meaningful, practical and locally connected support over short-term publicity. Our goal is to build long-term relationships with communities and organizations rather than treat social responsibility as a one-time campaign.

Our Vision for the Future

Toura Foundation is intended to grow from a locally connected initiative in Hunza into a broader platform for responsible tourism and community development across Pakistan.

Future priorities may include expanding scholarships, supporting women-led businesses, developing youth programs, strengthening environmental initiatives, supporting communities affected by disasters and creating more opportunities for local people to participate in the tourism economy.

Education

Expand support for students and education initiatives in communities with limited opportunities.

Women & Youth

Create stronger opportunities for women and young people through skills, enterprise, sport and participation.

Environment

Continue supporting greener communities and responsible management of mountain destinations.

Emergency Relief

Respond where practical when communities face disasters and urgent humanitarian needs.
