A Race Through Hunza's Mountain Heritage

Malika Mo Shikari, associated locally with the historic Queen Victoria Monument and its clifftop setting above Karimabad, offers striking views over the Hunza Valley. Its steep terrain and elevated position make the surrounding trail environment particularly suitable for adventurous outdoor activities.

Including this landscape in the race route added a strong sense of place to the event. Runners were not simply completing a distance; they were moving through a landscape that reflects Hunza's mountain culture, history and tourism identity.

125 Participants from Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral

One of the highlights of Murku 10K Hunza 2026 was the diversity of participation. Around 125 runners and participants from different parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral joined the event.

The event also showcased participation across different age groups, including young runners and women. Their presence demonstrated the growing interest in outdoor recreation and trail activities in the mountain communities of northern Pakistan.

Beyond competition, the event created a shared experience for participants, supporters, organisers and local residents. The start and finish areas became gathering points where people could celebrate achievement and encourage one another.

Encouraging Women and Young People on the Trails

The participation of women and younger runners was an important part of the event. Their involvement sends a positive message about creating more opportunities for people of different ages and backgrounds to participate in outdoor sports.

Adventure Touristik believes that destinations such as Hunza can become stronger when tourism, recreation and community participation develop together. Events like Murku 10K provide a platform for local talent while encouraging people to experience the mountains through sport.

More People. More Trails. Stronger Communities.

Karakoram BaseCamp Leads the Event

The Murku 10K Hunza was organised by Karakoram BaseCamp, with support from several donor companies, businesses and organisations. Their combined efforts helped create the infrastructure and environment needed for participants to safely take part in the event.

The event's visible network of supporters also demonstrated how collaboration between local organisations, tourism businesses and community stakeholders can help create new sporting and outdoor opportunities in Hunza.

Sports, Tourism and Local Community Development

Hunza is internationally recognised for its dramatic mountains, cultural heritage and trekking opportunities. Events such as Murku 10K can add another dimension to the destination by connecting visitors and residents through outdoor activities.
